The University of Calgary offers the following types of Killam awards:

Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarships:
These scholarships are open for competition among Ph.D. students who apply to the U. of C.'s Open Scholarship competition. Approximately nine awards are made annually to the top ranking students in the Open competition who are eligible to hold them. The scholarship has the highest monetary value of any of the university's awards ($25,000 per annum) and includes a research allowance. The awards are for two years, the second year being subject to satisfactory progress.

Killam Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Selected by a special multi-disciplinary committee of the University Research Grants Committee, the recipient of this award is an exceptional new scholar who has obtained a Ph.D. degree within the two years preceding the competition. The award enables the Fellow to work at The University of Calgary, consolidate their research training and develop and initiate original research in their discipline as well as participate in and contribute to the activities of their host department or unit. The award is valued at $45,000 per annual for two years that includes Alberta Health Care, extended health benefits and a $6,000 research allowance. Killam Visiting Scholar Awards:
The Killam Visiting Scholar Awards are intended to bring to the University of Calgary distinguished scholars who, by their presence and participation in research and teaching, will make a significant contribution to the academic life of the University. Awards are made for either the Fall or Winter term and include an honorarium of $50,000, plus a travel and research allowance of $3,000. Individuals may not apply on their own behalf. Nominations are made by the head of an academic department, unit or research group at the University of Calgary.

Killam Research and Scholarship Leave Fellowship Awards
This program is currently under review

Killam Research Leader Award
Presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to research, an acknowledge internation leader who has earned distinction for themselves adn for the U of C.  No one may be awarded the prize more than once.  The award is valued at $5,000.
 

Killam Emerging Research Leader Award
Presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to research at an early career stage.  No individual may be awarded this prize more than once.  The award is valued at $5,000.
 

Killam Innovation in Teaching Award
Recognizes outstanding contributions to innovative teaching methods.  The receipient will receive a prize of $5,000 and no individual can receive the prize more than once.

Killam Award for Leadership in Teaching
Recognizes outstanding contributions to leadership in University teaching.  The recipient will receive a prize of $5,000 and no individual can receive the prize more than once.

Killam Graduate Supervision and Mentoring Award
Presented to an individual who has done an outstanding job of supervising and mentoring Masters and/or PhD students at the U of C.  The recipient will receive a prize of $5,000 and no individual can receive the prize more than once.
 

Killam Annual Professors
Open to all full-time continuing academic staff, this award recognizes excellence in one or more of the following primary areas:  research, student mentoring, undergraduate and/or graduate teaching.  Up to five will be awarded each year, tenable only at the U of C.  Award winners will receive a prize of $10,000 available as a pay supplement or a research allowance.  Individuals may receive this award only once in their lifetime.
 

Killam Interdisciplinary Research Prize
Recognizes outstanding contributions to the development and leadership of interdisciplinary research collaborations.  The recipient will receive a prize of $5,000 and no individual can receive the prize more than once.

Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Chair:
The Killam Memorial Chair is awarded to distinguished scholars with an international reputation and who are devoted to postgraduate work in the scientific and/or engineering fields. The term is for five years, renewable once. The salary is renegotiated with each new chair.
