What it means to you to be a Killam Scholar

Being selected as a Killam Scholar is truly motivating.  Having my accomplishments formally recognized by such a prestigious organization provides a strong impetus to continue in research and to persevere through difficulties. This high level of acknowledgement has given me more confidence in my own abilities, and has encouraged me to take on new challenges as I move forward in my graduate studies.

How Killam funding has benefited you

Receiving Killam funding has been of enormous assistance in pursuing my PhD, and will allow me to focus on my research for the remainder of my graduate studies without financial concerns. I am also confident that having achieved this recognition will greatly facilitate future applications for post-doctoral placements, scholarships, and research grants.

Why you chose the University of Calgary

The University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was a perfect fit when I was deciding where to pursue my graduate studies. This new veterinary faculty has assembled a talented and extremely enthusiastic team of faculty and students who are committed to high-quality and innovative research. In particular, the faculty places an important emphasis on the concept of “One Health”, the idea that the health of humans, animals and the environment are inexorably linked. The result is that exciting multidisciplinary projects are being developed that combine the expertise of researchers from various backgrounds to tackle problems on a larger scale, taking a more holistic approach.
