Sheri Bell
Sociology & Anthropology

If I had to define my research interests in one word, it would be “diverse”. I am an eclectic scholar - interested in everything. I have done research for government and community organizations through my research positions at the Centre on Aging at the University of Manitoba and RESOLVE, a research center dedicated to examining issues of violence and abuse. My research spans three areas that often seem to overlap: (1) Family violence – where I have done research on elder abuse, healing after violence, and protection order granting rates in domestic violence cases; (2) Issues in Aging – where I have done work on the World Health Organization’s Age-Friendly Cities Initiative, and understanding isolation and exclusion in later life; and (3) Health and Medical Sociology – where I have looked at the illness experience and the medicalization of particular groups of individuals and social conditions. I am very keen to begin my new program of research on youth and their medication patterns based on diagnosis and familial settings.

Janine Olthuis
Psychology

My name is Janine Olthuis and I’m a Clinical Psychology PhD student at Dalhousie University. Since I began my studies at Dalhousie, I have heard of the impressive research pursuits and accomplishments of Dalhousie’s Killam scholars and it is such an honour to now be added to this group. I am thrilled to be a part of the Killam community both at Dalhousie as well as within my department, where many other students and faculty hold Killam awards.
